My son wanted to build a model rocket with me. Instead of just opening a kit, we designed our own, using OpenRocket - free, open-source model rocket design and simulation software.
We built it together with parts I had in my Rocket Room, and we flew it on an Estes C6-5 model rocket engine. The first flight was perfect!
Model rocketry is a great hobby for kids and adults alike. It teaches kids skills, like how to make things with your hands, how to follow instructions, and how to do things safely.
Then, it gets those kids outside, away from screens, to go fly what they built.
